Hutt City Council and Christchurch City Council are the latest New Zealand councils to sign up to the New Zealand Underground Asset Register, and implementation projects are now underway in those centres.
Hutt City rolled out the National Forward Works Viewer earlier this year, so adding NZUAR is a logical progression on multiple levels.
Christchurch City Council’s agreement starts with an initial pilot period, which is now in-flight and local utilities are currently being engaged and data onboarding has begun.
CCC plans to embed NZUAR into its standard way of doing things by 1 July 2027.
Hutt City and Christchurch’s adoption of NZUAR follows Wellington’s successful transition from pilot to BAU usage of the tool. WCC’s Corridor Manager Amanda Wolfaardt has described NZUAR as “transformational” to her ability to proactively manage the road corridor.
Further major centres are currently preparing for NZUAR implementation projects.

Council areas that subscribe to the National Forward Works Viewer are marked in blue, and areas in orange subscribe to both the NFWV and NZUAR. Christchurch and Hutt City are both getting started on their rollout journeys, with data uploads to come.
